Sharing is Caring
  • Among the many baseball publications I have purchased this winter, one of the most interesting is the 2011 Lindy's Sports Baseball Preview.  After opening the magazine I noticed something very unique, scouting reports.  Rating for Padres players and some interesting information about each person.  In this Padres blog post I'm going to share the pitchers rankings

San Diego Padres 2011 Pitchers

FB FBM Slider Curveball Change Command Overall
Mat Latos 6+ 6 6 4 4 6 4
Clayton Richard 5+ 6 5 5 5 5 3
Aaron Harang 5 5 5 4 4 5+ 2.5
Wade LeBlanc 4 5 4 - 5+ 5 2
Heath Bell 6 5 - 5 4 5 4
Luke Gregerson 5 6 6 - - 7- 3
Mike Adams 6 5 6 - 4 4+

Pitches are ranked from 2 (Poor) to 8 (Outstanding)

In terms of the "Overall ranking" It is on a 1 to 5 scale

5 - Franchise Player

4 - Frontline Player

3 - Above-average Player

2 - Average Player

1 - Bench Player

As an example Cliff ranked an 8 in command, but only his FB movement ranked higher than a 5+

Ubaldo Jimenez ranked with a 7+ fastball.  Finding anyone with an 8 is quite rare.

  • In terms of the notes, it varies per player.  I'll give you a taste of Mat Latos

*Deceptive delivery with a slight hesitation at the top.
*Creates an excellent downhill plane from high three-quarters
*Lacks consistency with his offspeed stuff, a downer curveball and circle change; tends to decelerate his arm with his changeup
*Loses focus with adversity

If this is information you enjoy reading I would suggest picking up a copy.
