Sharing is Caring
  • Among the many baseball publications I have purchased this winter, one of the most interesting is the 2011 Lindy's Sports Baseball Preview.  After opening the magazine I noticed something very unique, scouting reports.  Rating for Padres players and some interesting information about each person.  In this Padres blog post I'm going to share the position players rankings

San Diego Padres 2011 Position Players

Hit Power Speed Field Range Arm Overall
Nick Hundley 4 5 3 4 4 5 2
Brad Hawpe 4+ 5 4 - - 6 2
Orlando Hudson 5 4 5- 5+ 5 6- 2.5
Jason Bartlett 5 3 5 6 6 5+ 2.5
Chase Headley 5 4+ 3+ 6 5 5 2
Will Venable 4 5+ 6 5+ 6 5 2
Cameron Maybin 4 5 7 5 6 5 2
Ryan Ludwick 5 6 4 5 5 6 3

Players are ranked from 2 (Poor) to 8 (Outstanding)

In terms of the "Overall ranking" It is on a 1 to 5 scale

5 - Franchise Player

4 - Frontline Player

3 - Above-average Player

2 - Average Player

1 - Bench Player

Few observations:

  • None of the Padres rank below average in terms of hitting ability.
  • Ludwick is ranked a 6 in power, even though he is two years removed from a putting up big HR numbers.
  • Brad Hawpe and Ryan Ludwick rank higher than Chase Headley in terms of speed.
  • With the exception of Nick Hundley every Padres player ranks above average in all defensive catagories (Field, Range, Arm)

If this is information you enjoy reading I would suggest picking up a copy.
