Sharing is Caring

2010_Caribbean_SeriesThe Caribbean series is a round robin of four teams and the winner of the most games is the champion.  This year’s series, completed earlier this month, ended with Mexico (Obregon Yaguis)as the winner. This is the first for Mexico since 2005 and they finished with a 4-2 record against Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

The starting shortstop for Obregon Yaguis was Everth Cabrera, who finished the series with 4 runs scored over 5 games played.  For the winter season Everth finished 301/.404/.410 over 22 games and 83 at bats and had 8 stolen bases. He stayed healthy for the whole winter season and showed up to spring training leaner and quicker than last season.

Catcher Michael Collins, who played for Canada in the Australian league, finished with a .360/.411/.500 line over 28 games and 100 AB’s with 17 RBI.

3B Jesus Guzman finished .302/.357/.429 over 62 games and 252 AB’s with 6 HR and 52 RBI with 5 SB.

OF/IF Eric Patterson played 22 games in the Dominican league with a .175/.316/.394 line in 63 AB.

SS Gregorio Petit injured his knee during the winter league season and required surgery that ended his baseball year. He has been dropped by the Padres.

Catcher Quillermo Quiroz played in 45 games with 147 AB’s with 16 RBI and 2 SB for a .224/.287/.299 line.

IF/OF Oscar Salazar has resigned with the Padres (with a minor league contract) and received an invite to spring training. He finished the winter season with 44  games played and 171 AB with 25 RBI. His line was .281/.333/.374 for the season.

Catcher Ali Solis played in the Mexican league in 43 games and 171 AB for a .304/.354/.409 line and ended with 17 RBI.

RHSP Matt Buschmann, pitching for Mexico, had a great season with a 7-2 record, 2.70 ERA in 13 games and 83.1 IP. He had 28 BB and 61 SO with a 1.01 WHIP and .188 avg against.

RHP Samuel Deduno, picked up by the Padres off waivers, played for the Dominican briefly (3 games) with a 0-1 record and 8.10 ERA.

Reliever Alexis Lara also played briefly (5 games) with a 2.84 ERA.

LHSP Juan Oramas finished with a 2-2 record and 4.95 ERA over 11 ames and 43.2 IP with 29 B and 47 SO for a 1.51 WHIP and .231 avg against.

Reliever Stiven Osuna pitched in 6 games and 6.2 innings and ended with a 1.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.

Reliever Luis Perdomo pitched in 12 games for a total of 9.1 innings and a 1.93 ERA and 1.35 WHIP and .219 avg against.

Reliever Mauricio Tabachnik pitched in 18 games and 23 innings for a 1-1 record and 4.30 ERA with a 1.70 WHIP and .298 avg against.

Many of these players are currently in spring training with the Padres either on the 40 man or as spring training invitees and it will be interesting to see how their regular season turns out.
