Sharing is Caring

Headley2When it comes to All Stars at third base, most people think of guys like Mike Schmidt, Evan Longoria, and Alex Rodriguez.  Power hitters manning the hot corner is ideal in baseball, but not always the norm.  At a time when journeyman Ty Wigginton is leading the National League in home runs with thirteen, all bets are off.  Former All Star David Wright is only hitting .226 with six home runs, while Ryan Zimmerman is recently back from a injury that sidelined him for almost two months.  What does this mean?  It means the NL All Star third base spot is wide open.  A quick look at the league leaders

In all fairness, Wigginton and Ryan Roberts do not have enough at bats to qualify at AVG/OBP/SLG/OBPS, but as you can plainly see, Headley is having a great year, an All Star year even.  The chances are slim that Headley is selected, but I do feel it is important to point out that Chase is having a great season.

One last thing I want you to consider before you vote is Petco.  Below are Headley's stats if you project his road starts out, essentially eliminating Petco from the equation.

G AB R H 2B HR RBI AVG OBP SLG OPS
70 263 43 91 27 2 35 0.348 0.425 0.474 0.899

Chase not going to win any homerun titles, but his bat is coming around and it is time to start appreciating the hitter he is, not the hitter you may have expected him to be. #Vote4Chase
