In a surprising move, the Padres via twitter announced that Kyle Blanks was being promoted and Anthony Rizzo demoted. Since his call up Rizzo hit .143/.282./265 at the major league level after he put up monster numbers in Tucson (.365/.444/.715). Blanks not so long ago was the Padres 2010 opening day starting left fielder and was thought to be the first baseman in waiting. Blanks went on to struggle, hitting .157/.283/.324 and striking out in 46 of 102 at bats. Blanks was placed on the DL and while on a rehab strained his throwing elbow and required Tommy John surgery. Now the 88 Train is back and it appears he will make 1B and LF.
