In Bill Center's article in the Wednesday edition of the U-T Padres CEO Jeff Moorad said that the payroll next year will "start with a five." He also went on to say the payroll will eventually fall around $70 million in the next few years. Moorad also said the Padres are going to be run as "a break-even business." The factors that have an effect of future payrolls is the new television contract the Padres will get after their current contract with 4SD/Cox will expire at the end of the year and the debt still owed on PETCO Park. Moorad also said there is "nothing imminent" regarding the schedule of purchasing the team from John Moores.
