Per Ken Roshenthal's twitter the Padres have signed Mark Kotsay - "Sources: Kotsay in agreement with #Padres on one-year, $1.25M contract. Pending physical."

Mark Kotsay will be 36 at the start of the 2012 season.  He played with the padres during from 2001-2003.  In 2011 he played with the Milwaukee Brewers hitting .270/.329/.373/.703.  The Josh Byrnes era has now begun.

Mark Kotsay is a good guy, good clubhouse guy. He has a reputation as a team player. I think "high character guys" will only help some of the younger guys mature.

I like the idea of the bat off the bench. If he is starting over Guzman/Blanks vs RHP, then I'm going to turn on this move very quickly.
