Drew Cumberland may be returning to baseball, reports Jon Morosi of Fox Sports.  Going into the 2011 season Cumberland was the #8 prospect on our top 30 and although some people questioned his ability to stay at shortstop, no one questioned his bat.

Morosi wrote

"San Diego Padres middle infield prospect Drew Cumberland was medically cleared within the last several days to resume his baseball career, after retiring earlier this season due to an inner-ear disorder and post-concussion effects."

Cumberland is eligible for the rule V draft and has been left unprotected.  Other notable players left unprotected at Matt Clark, Nick Schmidt, and Jonathan Galvez.
