Yomiuri to acquire second baseman Gonzalez REPORTED BY JapanBall.com

Japan Series champion Yomiuri Giants are set to acquire second baseman Edgar Gonzalez, who spent the past two seasons with the San Diego Padres. A senior Yomiuri official said Thursday the club will sign the 31-year-old, pending a physical. Yomiuri has used several players at second base in recent years. Gonzalez has a chance to be an everyday second baseman. Gonzalez is a career .255 hitter with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs in 193 games in 2008-2009. He played for Mexico in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. The Padres outrighted Gonzalez to Triple-A Portland in November. Follow Steve on twitter.
