As we roll into the weekend after the winter meetings, dust has settled and moves are still being made. Josh Byrnes has until Monday to lock up players before the non-tender deadline. For a while eyes were on the Padres for making a move in picking up Huston Street. This was more action then big market clubs like the Yankees even made. But at the last minute all eyes traveled 1.5 hours north to Anaheim where the Angels are trying to make a playoff run yet again. Here are some links on the Padres, and even one on the relationship with the Angels: Submit articles and follow me on twitter @M_Rennick
Winter Meetings recap - Padres.com
Padres winter round up - Chicken Friars "It wasn’t an overly active off-season so far, but the Padres have made some moves, they’ve seen some changes, and they’ve laid some ground work." Fox Sports San Diego is close to becoming reality - NCT "Henry Ford, the senior vice president of Fox Sports Ohio, has been hired as president and general manager of Fox Sports San Diego. No announcement has been made, but industry sources say it's a done deal, and a good deal for San Diego."
Could Angels' moves affect Padres? - SDUT "The Angels spent more on two players than the Padres figure to spend on their entire roster over a six-year period (2009-2014) -- if their incremental payroll gains continue at the current pace." Padres get Michael Wing in minor league rule 5 draft - Through The Fence Baseball "While Wing is only organizational depth for now, given the Padres need for middle-infield help and a revolving door during an uncertain transition year, this seems to be a solid pick up for the Padres."
Huston Street's fantasy stock has risen - rotodiamond.com "At 28, Street has just entered his prime, and the move out west could very well translate into a 2009-like resurgence. He becomes a high-value pick on draft day, one that should greatly out perform his average draft position." More info on Huston Street - mlbdirt.com "Street will bring his fly ball tendencies to the best park he can pitch in and will have one of the best defensive center fielders in Cameron Maybin behind him."
