![]() The first spring training game is in the books. Padres offense was pretty quiet all game until the 9th inning when they staged a 4 run comeback. It was all for not though as the Mariners came back after that to win the game 5-4. All the game details are below. The positive is that the comeback was led by our young up and coming prospects. It's nice to see them contribute, even in a game that doesn't count for wins and losses. The Padres play again today at noon with Dustin Moseley getting the start. Here are your Padres links for today Submit articles and follow me on twitter Follow @M_Rennick Grandal's two-run double keys comeback - Padres.com "After a run-scoring single by Edinson Rincon, prospect Yasmani Grandal ripped a two-run double to center, and then the Padres tied the game when Seattle shortstop Nick Franklin lost a pop-up in the sun, allowing pinch-runner Cory Spangenberg to score the tying run." Matt Clark looking to follow in father's footsteps - Padres.com "While Clark, 25, is likely headed back to Triple-A Tucson because of this depth, he won't wallow at all about his standing in the organization -- a testament, he said, to watching how his father, Terry, who pitched six seasons in the Major Leagues for seven teams, handled himself." Alonso made the most of opportunities in the US - Union Tribune "Alonso quickly learned that baseball as well as English was his ticket. And one day, he hopes baseball could be a ticket to re-connect with Cuba." Revamped bullpen looks to make up for past losses - NCT "Whether Huston Street, Andrew Cashner, Luke Gregerson and Ernesto Frieri can get the job done is one of the Padres' biggest questions of the spring." Peoria renews spring training lease with the Padres and Mariners - azcentral.com "City leaders announced Monday a renewed 20-year lease agreement with the two West Coast teams at a $48 million price tag to maintain the Peoria Sports Complex as their spring-training base until 2034." No discount for the Padres on Maybins arbitration years - MLBTR "Not only did the Padres lose the chance to pay Maybin less during his arbitration years if he misses significant time due to injury, but they overpaid him by an estimated $3.6MM even if good health is assumed." Day 16: Vedder cup rolls on... - Follow The Padres "I’m still investigating the high velocity marks from Sunday’s game — the Andrew Cashner at 103 mph and Anthony Bass at 98 mph. Those were some hot readings, though I’m not sure by how much. I’ll try to get some answers why today." Why the Maybin extension might mean no for Chase Headley - Chicken Friars "Now, with Maybin’s deal setting the pace, the Padres will have a much harder time finding a way to get an extension for Headley done that makes him happy while allowing the Padres the possibility of having signed him for a bargain." Andrew Cashner averages a 102.2 MPH fastabll - Gaslamp Ball "I'm pretty sure running the gun up over 103 mph in your very first Spring Training appearance earns a little happy dance in the hearts of Padres fans." A different top 10 prospects list - Glen Miller of The Friarhood "My top 10 list of Padres prospects isn’t based entirely on talent or potential. My list is simply the top 10 Friar farm-hands I can’t wait to see in the Major Leagues with the Friars." Digging into the prospects - Chris Kelly at The Friarhood "The real question, though, that I’ve never been able to answer is how can you tell when a minor league player has what it takes to make it at the major league level? "
