Black gives a hint of the opening day line up

In an article from Jason Owens at SDNN.com

At a Padres luncheon at the San Diego Hall of Champions, Black and general manager Jed Hoyer talked with fans about offseason moves, keeping Adrian Gonzalez, the start of Spring Training and what the lineup would look like if the season started today.

Here’s the rundown:
1. Tony Gwynn,  CF
2. David Eckstein, 2B
3. Adrian Gonazlez, 1B
4. Chase Headley, 3B
5. Kyle Blanks, LF
6. Will Venable, RF
7. Nick Hundley, C
8. Everth Cabrera, SS
9. Starting pitcher

Let the second guessing begin!

Eckstein needs to bat 8th and Everth needs to bat 1 or 2.

This may be the opening day line up but it should change a month or two in. Cabrera and Blanks are the keys. If Cabrera can handle it, he should hit first, bumping Gwynn/Hairston to second and Eckstein to 8th. If Blanks can handle it, he moves to 4th and Headley to 5th.

Cabrera's the straw that stirs the drink, putting the pressure on the opposition. Gwynn is fast but can't swipe bags. Flip those two guys and you've got something going as well as a dangerous speed combo when the order turns over.

I am surprised to see Gwynn as the starter. I thought it would be Hairston. More pop in his bat, and plenty capable in CF. If Blanks can hit the breaking stuff this year, look out. Does he remind anyone else of Pedro Serrano from Major Leagues? "hit fast ball very good, curve ball, not so good".
