As rough as this season has been for the Friar Faithful, all the frustration of a lost season took a backseat to elation as the Padres blew out the Cubs in the rubber game to win the final series of 2011. The win put the Padres at 71-91 on the season, a 19-game drop-off from last year’s second place finish.

The Padres saw great second half play from Nick Hundley, Mat Latos and Kyle Blanks, as well as the emergence of Jesus Guzman as a legitimate major league hitter. The Future also looks bright for the Padres in 2012 based on Cameron Maybin’s breakout season and the young bullpen of Josh Spence, Anthony Bass and Brad Bach in a bullpen led by veteran mentor Heath Bell.

Bud Black’s staff will look to bounce back next spring, and might have more reinforcements with an expected increase in payroll.

So sit back and enjoy reading about the Padres final series of the season.

The Padres were unable to beat Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers in the rubber game as they lost the game and the series on Sunday. Another shoutout on Friday made way to a satisfying win on Saturday. But Kershaw beat the Padres for the third time Sunday, earning him the pitching “triple-crown”. The Padres now have only three games remaining, as they host the Cubs for their final series starting Monday. Below is a gme-by-game recap of their series against the Dodgers.

The Padres went into baseball’s biggest bandbox and came out with a sweep led by outstanding starting and relief pitching. The Friars held the Rockies to only three runs the whole series, something no team had ever done in series three games or more in Coors Field history.

The sweep also completed their last road trip, posting a travelling record at 36-45. They now will head home for the final six games of the year starting with a three game series with the Dodgers on Friday. Below is a recap of their record-setting trip in Denver.

The Padres won their first series since finishing the sweep of the Marlins on August 23rd by beating Arizona in the first two games of this weekend’s series before dropping Sunday’s game. Sunday’s loss helped the D-Back’s reduce their magic number down to five, with the Giants completing the sweep of Colorado earlier in the day.

The Padres will take their last road trip by heading to Denver to start a three game series against the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Below is a game-by-game recap of the series this past weekend.

The Padres came to AT&T Park with a chance to deliver the fatal blow to the team that ended their season last year. Yet they were unable to do so after dropping three straight games to the Giants, giving their rivals a very slim chance of still making the postseason.

The Friars will limp back home to face the division leading Diamondback, this time with a chance to help San Francisco out.

Below is a recap of the series sweep that was handed to them by the still-reigning world champions.
