WP: Tim Stauffer (4-5) Padres finally dust off the brooms and put them to use as Padres with Tim Stauffer and Anthony Rizzo leading the charge sweep the Kansas City Royals bringing them their first season series sweep and keep Kansas City without a win at PETCO Park. As if the news doesn't get any better, today's victory helped lift San Diego out of the cellar to now be one game ahead of the Dodgers.
The Good Tim Stauffer (7.0IP 4H 1R 1ER 2BB 6K): Tim just continues to lead the rotation pitching beautifully. When his pitch count started to get high and got into some trouble in the 7th inning, he hunkered down reached in and gave it all he got to get out of the inning without a run scoring. As Mark Grant would say, that's some "big league pitchin'"! Anthony Rizzo (1-4, 1B, R, 2 RBI): Anthony Rizzo helping to bust open the 3rd inning with his 2 RBI! Slowly the young man will figure out the pitching in the majors. He just has to work on lowering the strike out rate a little bit. Heath Bell (1IP 2H 0R 0ER 0BB 0K): Heater! Heath records his fourth consecutive save in four attempts. Heater answered the call (and cries of the fans) and he delivered. He did make Padres fans hearts race a little bit when he gave up those hits. This all makes for exciting baseball, right? Ryan Ludwick (1-3 2B, BB, R, K): Ryan looks to be figuring PETCO Park out! He is hitting the ball well which includes the double he hit off of Chen. The Bad Chase Headley (0-4, K): No one likes to see a hot hitter's hitting streak come to an end. That's always a bad thing. Unfortunately Chase couldn't join in on the hit parade and his streak was ended. Chase will just have to start up a new one! The Ugly The Strikeout: The box score reads a total of 10 strikeouts given up by the Padres. That is a K% of 37% on the day. The strikeout is not a statistic that Padres hitters want to lead in the majors.
