WP: Jason Vargas (6-5) On this 1984 throwback night in Safeco Field, Padres could not channel that winning season as they ended their four game winning streak on the first of the three games on this final series of interleague play against the Seattle Mariners. Padres were stymied by the Mariners Jason Vargas who would collect seven strikeouts.
The Good Chase Headley (3-4, 3 1B): Chase was the only one keeping Jason a little bit on his toes as he collected half of the Padres hits this game. He continues to see the ball very well The Bad Anthony Rizzo (0-3, 2K): Anthony just couldn't figure out Jason tonight as he fanned twice. Jason Bartlett (0-4, K): Jason had a bad game today. He went hitless, struck out, and committed an error that might have saved a couple of runs. The Ugly Padres Miscues: The Padres weren't getting to Jason Vargas much, this game. The last thing they needed in this game was to help him out even more. Padres commited an error and Maybin was thrown out on the basepaths after overrunning first base. These kinds of miscues dig your team further and make your pitcher work harder than he needs to.
