April 16th, 2010 Padres 6 DBacks 3 WP Heath Bell 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 0K, 14P LP Juan Gutierrez 0.2IP, 2H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 1K, 20P Redemption was the name of the game for a couple of Padres in this one. Chase Headley, who had a couple of errors in the field, ended this one in the bottom of the ninth with a 3 run no doubter to left field. Kyle Blanks helped keep the game close, allowing the comeback to happen with a couple of outfield assists and an RBI of his own. Blanks had been in a slump prior to this game, as he was moved to 6th in the batting order from what had been his cleanup role. The Padres late heroics got Jon Garland off the hook for what would have been his third loss in as many starts. Garland got hurt in the third, when he issued three walks and gave up two hits to give the D-Backs a 3-1 lead. Headley acted like a traditional clean up hitter with his crushing home run in the 9th to seal the comeback for the Friars.
April 17th, 2010 Padres 5 DBacks 0 WP Kevin Correia 5.2IP, 3H, 0R, 0ER, 2BB, 8K, 105P LP Kris Benson 6IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 4BB, 1K, 100P Nick Hundley and the pitching staff came through big in this one. Hundley had 3 RBI’s, including a solo shot in the 4th off starter Kris Benson, who was making his first start since 2006. Kevin Correia was effective in 5.2 innings, striking out 8 and giving up no runs. The Padre bullpen came in and shut the door, giving up only one hit throughout the rest of the game.
April 18th, 2010, Padres 5 Dbacks 3 WP Edward Mujica 2IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 1K, 30P LP Aaron Heilman 0.2IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 0K, 25P The Padres seem to be relying on the big inning for their wins so far in the young season. In this one it was the 7th, and Aaron Heilman who were on the receiving end of some Padre offense. Scott Hairston started it off with a solo shot with the Padres down 2-0 to get the first run of the day on board. Then his older brother, Jerry served up a double over left fielder Connor Jackson’s head to score Everth Cabrera. Chase Headley, the hottest hitter on the team, then capped off the inning with one of the more bizarre plays you will see. Headley doubled to deep left center, scoring two, then went to third on a bad relay throw by Tony Abreu and with no one covering home, he scooted down to home to what amounted to a double and an error. This would be all they would need as Heath Bell pitched the 9th and gave the Padres a series sweep of the DBacks.
