May 17th, 2010 Padres 3 Giants 1 WP Clayton Richard 7IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 3BB, 5K, 98P LP Matt Cain 6IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 5BB, 5K, 119P The Giants and especially Matt Cain must really hate the Padres so far this season. The Padres won their seventh in a row against the Giants and third against Matt Cain, giving him all three of his loses this season. Clayton Richard turned in another great start, going seven innings and giving up three hits, which were all in one inning. The Giants have great pitching, with bigger names than the Padres in their rotation, but for some reason they cannot find a way to win against the Friars so far. This one started off with an Adrian Gonzalez bomb to deep center off Cain in the bottom of the first. It was his second in his last four games, which hopefully means he is getting out of his slump, or his shoulder is getting healthy, whichever was the cause for his power outage since Cincinnati. Chase Headley singled in a run in the 5th and with the bases loaded in the 7th, Kyle Blanks was hit by a pitch to bring in the final run of the night. Chris Denorfia, who was called up before the game, got a hit in his one at bat in the 8th. It will not get any easier for the Giants who will go against Mat Latos in the next game, and in case you forgot Latos almost pitched a perfect game against the Giants on Thursday. May 18th, 2010 Padres 6 Giants 7 WP Dan Runzler 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 2K 12P LP Caesar Ramos 0.2IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 0K, 18P Well I suppose the Padres could not go 18-0 against the Giants this year....although one can dream. The Giants finally beat the Padres in extra innings, although they almost gave it away in the form of Brian Wilson giving up two runs in the bottom of the 12th with a three run lead. Sadly this was the night that the Giants would get over the roadblock that the Padres have been. It figured to be a low scoring game with Jonathan Sanchez and Mat Latos on the mound, but with the way the two of them have been pitching lately, this one looked like an offensive outpouring. The Padres got four off of Sanchez with five singles in the 5th(always fans of symmetry), and the Giants got two off of Latos. The Padres were up in the 8th with a 4-2 lead until Andres Torres, who had smoked the ball in every one of his at bats previous, took Mike Adams deep to tie it up. Caesar Ramos was the last pitcher the Pads had in their bullpen and gave up three runs to earn the loss. It was frustrating because you expect the Padres bullpen to be nails every time out because they have been so good all year, but I suppose they are allowed to be human every once in a while. The Padres are still 7-1 against the Giants on the year.
