The Padres salvaged their road trip ,winning big at Miller Park on Sunday. The win gave them a 7-3 record on their ten game road trip. The Friars assured a winning record before traveling to Miluakee after taking two of three from the Giants and sweeping the Cubs. The win on Sunday extended their lead against the Giants back to six games in the NL West. Here is how they fared against the Brewers this weekend.
August 20th, 2010 Padres 6 Brewers 10 WP Chris Capuano (2-2) 3.67IP 0H 0R 0ER 1BB 4K 0HR LP Wade LeBlanc (7-11) 3.33IP 7H 7R 7ER 1BB 3K 2HR The Brewers were able to get 15 hits and score 10 runs against one of the majors top pitching staffs as they cruesed to a 10-6 victory Friday night. Wade LeBlanc returned to loss column after getting shelled for seven runs, all earned, in as many innings. The loss was LeBlancs’s eleventh on the season, leading all Padres. The Padres got to starter Yovani Gallardo early drawing five walks to score six runs in three and 3 1/3 innings. But the Brewers brought in Capuano in the fourth with the bases loaded and he got them out of the inning, leaving the bags full. Adrian Gonzalez and Chase Headley each homered for the Pads in the first to give them a 3-0 advantage. The Brewers would bounce back scoring twice highlighted by Casey McGeehee’s RBI double. Will Venable would add a two run double the next inning scoring Chris Denorfia and Everth Cabrera for a 5-2 advantage. After a three-run shot by McGeehee to tie the game, Gonzalez hit a bases loades single to give the Padres their last lead 6-5. The Brewwers would add five runs from the fourth through the sixth highlighted by Jonathon Lucroy’s two run shot in the fourth.
August 21st, 2010 Padres 5 Brewrs 6 WP Mike McClendon (1-0) 3IP 1H 0R 0ER 3BB 3K 0HR LP Kevin Correia (10-8) 4.33IP 7H 5R 5ER 4BB 3K 0HR S John Axford (19) 1.67IP 1H 0R 0ER 0BB 2K 0HR For the second straight day the Padres were able to send the Milwaukee starter to an early shower only to have his replacement shut them down. Mike McClendon earned his first career victory shutting down the first place Padres with three strong innings. The Padres erased a three run deficit when they scred three in the fourth punctuated by Kevin Correia’s RBI single with the bags full and no outs. But the top of the order would leave them full and the game tied. Matt Stairs would make it interesting, drawing the within one when he hit his 21st pinch hit home run, a major league record. The Brewers were led by Ryan Braun and Chris Dickerson who had two hits each. Braun’s homer is the sixth was his 18th of the season. John Axford had his 19th save this year pitching an inning and two thirds. Trevor Hoffman did not pitch and remains with 599 career saves.
August 22nd, 2010 Padres 7 Brewers 3 WP Jon Garland (13-8) 5.33IP 8H 2R 2ER 3BB 4K 1HR LP Manny Parra (3-10) 6IP 8H 7R 7ER 4BB 5K 2HR Adrian Gonzalez and Chase Headley each homered in their first at-bats for the second time this series to lead the Padres to a 7-3 win in Milwaukee on Sunday. Ryan Ludwick added a two run double in the fifth to put the Padres up 4-0. Ryan Braun hit his second round-tripper in as many days to cut the deficit in half at 4-2 after five innings played. But San Diego would pour on three more the next half inning. In his second game back from the disabled list, David Eckstein singled home Luis Durango to go up 5-2. Eckstein went 2-4 and scored twice. Miguel Tejada doubled him home the second time along with Jon Garland to go up 7-2. Braun shaved another run off the lead with a RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
