The Padres celebrated Military Opening Day with a win Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Dodgers 6-2 in their classy new MARPAT camouflage uniforms. The win was a bright spot in an otherwise odd series with their rivals form Los Angeles.

Fiesta Mexicana was the party that wouldn’t end Friday night as the Padres endured four rain delays before the game was eventually suspended tied at two all at 1:30am Saturday morning. The game was continued at 5:35PM later that evening.

Controversy followed Saturday night with the ending of game two as Chase Headley was called out for runner interference for colliding with Casey Blake on play where everyone would reach safely and give the Padres a bases loaded opportunity down three. Instead Headley was out and the game was over.

The win Sunday brought the struggling Padres back to .500 with a 4-4 record heading into the final series of the homestand against the Reds. Mat Latos is set to start his first game of the season on Monday against Edison Volquez (1-0)

After four rain delays totaling 3 hours and 36 minutes and nearly 24 hurs, the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to defeat the San Diego Padres 4-2. The game was suspended at 1:30AM PST Saturday morning tied at two in the ninth during the fourth delay since starting late at 7:30pm Friday night.

Tony Gwynn Jr. hit a soft liner off Pat Neshek to knock in Juan Uribe who doubled off Ernesto Frieri to start the 11th and advance Aaron Miles to third. Miles also scored on a wild pitch by Neshek to make it 4-2.

The Padres only runs came in the fifth when Orlando Hudson’s infield single scored Will Venable. The O-Dog scored later that inning on Ryan Ludwick’s fielder’s choice.

LP Dustin Mosely (0-2) 6IP 8H 3R 2ER 3BB 1K 1HR

After falling to the Dodgers to finish Friday’s suspended game earlier in the evening, The Padres were shutout by the Dodgers to extend their losing streak to three games.

Dustin Mosely gave up two RBIs to Andre Eithier in the form of a single in the first and a solo home run in the fifth. Matt Kemp also scored in the fifth on Chris Denorfia’s fielding error off the bat of Juan Uribe.

Hideki Kuroda dominated Padres hitters for eight innings but got in a bit of a jam in the ninth. With two out he gave up consecutive singles to Brad Hawpe and Chase Headley prompting manager Don Mattingly to bring in the closer Jonathon Broxton. Broxton walked Chris Denorfia to load the bases for Cameron Maybin.

The game ended when Chase Headley was called out for interference when he collided with Casey Blake trying to field Maybin’s slow grounder between short and third. Blake appeared to have no play but Headley was out by definition and the Padres rally ended with Broxton picking up his fifth save of the season.

The Padres offense rebounded with a huge win, snapping a three game skid with a 7-2 victory on Sunday.

Jorge Cantu ended the Padres scoreless streak at 17 2/3 innings when he singled in Orlando Hudson in the bottom of the third to tie the game at one all.

Ryan Ludwick broke out of a 0-17 slump with a Ruthian shot 438 feet into the second deck in left field to give the Padres a 2-1 lead.

Nick Hundley extended his season-opening hit streak to seven games when he deposited a low and outside fastball into the Padres bullpen beyond the centerfield wall to put the Friars up by three.

Aaron Harang gave up a run early in the first when Eithier’s fielder’s choice scored Tony Gwynn Jr. He settled down after that until the seventh inning. With a runner on second he fielded a comebacker up the middle that appeared to have Matt Kemp caught in a rundown on his way to third base.

But Harang threw the ball away toward shallow left to allow Kemp to score and hitter James Loney to advance to second with no outs.

Bud Black bought in Luke Gregerson who then hit Juan Uribe to put runners on first and second. Gregerson then induced a 6-4-3 twin killing from the slow-footed Rod Barajas. Jamey Caroll then struck out to limit the Dodger damage to only one run.

Cam Maybin hit his second homer of the season to lead off the eighth with a solo shot giving the Padres a 5-2 lead..Maybin entered on a double switch that brought in Gregerson.

Alberto Gonzalez singled in Hundley to give the Padres a 6-2 lead. Maybin then tripled to give the Pads a 5 run advantage heading into the ninth.

Mike Adams and Pat Neshek each pitched a scoreless inning to hold on for the win.
