The Good, Bad, and Ugly 4/20 Game 2 @ CHI PDF Print E-mail
Game Day Recaps - Game Day Recaps

Sharing is Caring

After having played a most forgettable game not more than an hour earlier, The Padres, once again, take the field and played the regularly scheduled game for today. This time, the Padres found the “Eye of the Friar” and pelted the Cubs with three home runs to win 5-4 to save from being swept in Chicago.

WP: Harang (4-0)
LB: Russell (1-2)
SV: Bell (5)

The Good

Aaron Harang 6IP 9H 2R 2ER 0BB 5K 1.88 ERA

Aaron continues to make Jed Hoyer look good with his pickup. He had a solid performance through six innings. Things got a little dicey for him in the 5th inning as he gave up 5 hits and 2 runs and it seemed like the Cubs were going to run away in the inning. But after some Balsley words-of-wisdom, he hunkered down and got out of the inning without more damage.

Ryan Ludwick 3 for 4 with 1HR and 2 doubles
This is the Ryan Ludwick that every Padres fan has been waiting for ever since they got him! He got the "Eye of the Friar" and just turned loose with the bat. He sent a 2-run jack into left field and tacked on a couple of doubles and scored on a Alberto Gonzalez sac fly. He’s still got it. It just needs to come out more.

Chris Denorfia 3 for 5 with 1 HR and 2 singles
One could say he atoned for what might be a bad fielding decision Monday night. Whatever it may be, he produced today and was part of the Padres Resurgence.

The Bad

Chad Qualls 1IP 2H 2R 2ER 0BB 2K 3.12 ERA
The Third Out eluded Chad once again as he left a belt-high pitch in which Alfonso Soriano absolutely crushed for a 2-run home run to put the Cubs within a much more manageable 1-run deficit. Chad has to work on not leaving pitches over the plate like that.

The Ugly

Chase Headley 0 for 3, HBP and CS
It was actually a bit difficult to find something “ugly” about today’s game. Which is absolutely not a bad thing at all. Chase didn’t get in on the Padres Resurgence (hitless) today. He got on base by being hit but was thrown out trying to steal a base from Geovany Soto who just seemed to be quite on target with his throws to second today.
