2011 Season - Good, Bad, and Ugly

Sharing is Caring

WP: Chad Qualls  (4-3)
LP: Dan Wheeler (0-1)
SV: Heath Bell (19)

With Mat Latos, and the Padres Bullpen, the Padres claw, scrap, and fight the proverbial Goliath in Fenway Park and earn their first interleague win of the 2011 campaign. In addition, Padres snap a six game losing skid and look to potentially take a series win Wednesday in Boston in the rubber-match.

The Good

Nick Hundley (2-3, 1B, 2B, R, K): Nick is showing signs of his pre-DL days by putting solid contact on the ball and getting on base.

Mat Latos (5.2IP 10H 4R 4ER 4BB 7K): At first it might appear as if he had a bad day with that line, but one has to consider that he went up against probably half of the American League all-star lineup today. He sent seven Red Sox straight back to the dugout and he was able to bounce back after giving up runs. Mat never let an inning break out of hand.

Heath Bell (1IP 1H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K): Heath earned some more stripes by having to pitch against the heart of the Red Sox order with only a single run advantage. Things looked potentially dire when Kevin Youkilis singled against Heath with David Ortiz up to bat. But Heath worried none and got the next three outs to close the game for the Padres.

The Walk: Padres hitters drew seven base on balls including The Walking Second in which Aceves was just all over the place and threw five base on balls plus two additional by Jason Bartlett. It just goes to show that patience at the plate goes a long way than aimlessly hacking.

The Bad

Chris Denofia (0-4, BB, K): Hitless game unfortunately brings Deno’s AVG below .300 (.295). A couple of multi hit games should bring that average back above .300

The Ugly

Ryan Ludwick (0-5): Seems like he can’t seem to leave this part, can he. Lone Padre to not make it on to base this game and popped up to the infield numerous times one of which ended a small rally in the 8th.
