Sharing is Caring

Mat_LatosMat Latos joined myself and Justin Biscotti filling in on “The Drive” (XTRA Sports 1360) to talk about the trade and how he feels about heading to Cincinnati.

(Download/Listen to the interview here)

Topics included:

  • His reaction on comments that were made personally about him after the trade.
  • How he found out about the trade.
  • His conversation with Byrnes after the trade.
  • How lack of run production puts stress on the entire team, not just the guy on the mound.
  • If he will have to adjust to pitching in the NL Central
  • His fondest memories as a Padre.

This didn't clear the air at all. It actually showed some of Mat's immaturity and it also showed an immense bias this site and/or 1360 has for Mat. I've never seen someone try so hard and kiss someones arse as much as Steve did in that interview.

First of all, asking the player accused doesn't really clear the air especially when it's someone so immature. That's like asking a child if he punched his little brother to "clear the air."

Mat referred to Darren Smith's radio show as a "washed up radio show." Classy and extremely mature Mat. Am I the only one amused by this comment coming out of the vastly inferior radio station from a host that is nothing more than a blogger?

I loved that Mat tried to justify his tattoo by pointing out it was done 3 days before that important game. Again, this only shows his immaturity. That doesn't make it any better Mat. Getting a tattoo at any point during the season is extremely immature.

Couldn't wait a few days until the offseason? Couldn't afford a trip back up there to get your tattoo?

Then Mat's immaturity continues as he throws down his team by complaining about the lack of offense.

Josh Byrnes didn't clear the air either. Did you expect him to bash Latos? Only an immature little kid like Mat would do that on the radio. Byrnes kept it politically correct. I'm surprised he called Mat immature at all.

I don't need someone to tell me how immature Mat was. I saw it on the field. I can only imagine what goes on behind the scenes. You seem to be the only person not pointing out how immature he is. Everyone and their mother has said he has issues.

This is the kid who once threw a baseball at an umpire during a game. Mat was my favorite Padre, but I can't say I'm sad he's gone after this interview and comments from people who actually have real Padres connections. Good riddance Mat. I hope you do well and grow up in Cinci.

So... asking him to clarify things he was wrongly accused of is bias?

Funny how you defend the people that made inaccurate statements. You sound like someone with an agenda.

No it's how you were so desperate to retaliate to those who were saying those things about Mat. I saw someone point out your bias for Mat in another article of yours right after the trade. I didn't see that in your article, but that interview clearly showed exactly what that person was saying. Why are you trying so hard for this guy who's no longer a Padre if theres no bias?

Wrongly accused? I'm not so sure. Why would a professional radio broadcaster make that up? I certainly see why Mat would lie and deny it. The tattoo timing wasn't accurate, but it doesn't change the point. Hours or days it was extremely immature. Thank you for clearing the air though. Having Mat on your show really showed his true colors. Immature little boy.

What agenda is that? Like I said he was my favorite Padre. Even when Adrian was here. Just calling it like I see it.

By the way, my goal wasn't to defend anyone. I happen to hate Darren Smith and I actually hadn't even heard that particular rumor. My problem is everyones general comments about Mat being immature. Everyone is saying it including Byrnes on your show. Meanwhile you are acting like he has no maturity issues. Everyone else sees his issues. Why are you blind to them?

I think it's funny that you accuse me of having an agenda or bias when yours is obviously so strong. I dont have a problem with you. I rarely even read anything from this blog, but its been a slow week for the Padres. Don't be hypocrite and you might wanna try a little harder to be objective.

Look John, I don't know you and since you just signed up for the site I'm going to assume you don't know me. If you did, I don't think you would sink to the level of calling me a hypocrite or saying I'm not objective, which is laughable and shows you don't pay much attention to the things I write or say on air.

I'm really not ignoring anything. I spend plenty of time with Padres players at all levels and you have a lot of different personalities. We all have character flaws and if you are asking me to judge them for that, then you are asking the wrong guy.

Sink to what level? Is it not hypocritical to falsely accuse me of something while displaying it yourself?

You're right I don't know you and I haven't read enough to know if you're capable of being objective. What I do know from this interview and from your article is that you can't be objective on this topic. You've made that perfectly clear.

Im not trying to hurt your feelings and I'm not trying to start a war. I just dont like it when people spin the truth because of a personal bias. Another writer on this blog did a great job with his take on the trade. Peter Frieberg or something like that was objective and told the whole story other than Latos' maturity issues which I can only guess you censored.

Im not asking you to judge him based on character flaws. Im saying you shouldn't ignore them or deny reality because of personal bias.

If being a Padres fan makes me biased, then you are correct. Then again, it's a site about the Padres.

I know half the guys on the major league roster personally, that doesn't mean I'm blind or can't be objective. I know people in the front office, that doesn't mean I can't be objective or critical. If these were issues the site wouldn't have the large amount of traffic it does and I wouldn't have lasted more than a few weeks on air.

In terms on censoring, that is a terrible assumption to make and it is incorrect. I don't censor our writers and never plan to. The only thing we censor on the site and social media outlets are hate speech and slander. In regards to the writers they are well educated, opinionated fans, which is what we are all about. I don't agree with them all the time, and they don't always agree with me, but that's kind of the point.

I invite you to get to know me and the site a bit more, I'm sure once you do you will realize we have a great group of rational and educated fans here.
