September 26, 2010 The first annual “PICK UP 2010” charity-bowling event to create awareness and support for those affected by Williams Syndrome was a huge success. Mat Latos was in attendance to show his support for a worthy cause. Padres pitcher, Mat Latos graciously donated his time to bowl a couple games with some lucky fans. Latos courteously posed for pictures and interacted with fans in attendance including a group of 5 teenage boys with Williams Syndrome, creating a once in a lifetime experience. While bowling, Latos lent his bowling expertise to a 10-year-old fan having a little trouble with his fastball down the middle of the lane. Sharing stories and signing autographs, Latos brought many smiles to children and adults alike. His humble demeanor and enjoyable personality added to the fun-loving family atmosphere like few people can do. Williams Syndrome is a genetic disorder that is present at birth and can affect anyone. It is characterized by medical problems, including cardiovascular disease, developmental delays, and learning disabilities. These occur side by side with striking verbal abilities, highly social personalities and an affinity for music. WS affects 1 in 10,000 people worldwide – an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 people in the United States. Additional donated items are still available on Ebay with all proceeds going to the Williams Syndrome Association. Bid Now For more information about Williams Syndrome please check out the Willams Syndrome Association website here.
