Jason_Bartlett_PadresSAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres announced today that they have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with infielder Jason Bartlett for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Jed Hoyer made the announcement.

Acquired by the Padres on December 17 as part of a six-player deal with Tampa Bay, Bartlett appeared in 135 games last season for the Rays, making 125 starts at shortstop. The 31-year-old hit .254 (119-for-468) with 27 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 47 RBI, 71 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.  The right-handed-hitting infielder set career highs in 2009 by hitting .320 (160-for-500) with 14 home runs, 66 RBI, 90 runs scored and 30 stolen bases, while being selected to his first career All-Star team.  The .320 batting average established a new club record for Tampa Bay, topping the previous mark of .315 set by Carl Crawford in 2007.

Originally selected by San Diego in the 13th round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft and signed by current Padres amateur scout Lane Decker, Bartlett has hit .281 (702-for-2501) with 29 home runs, 129 doubles, 23 triples, 242 RBI, 363 runs scored and 100 stolen bases in 721 career games over parts of seven Major League seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2004-07) and Rays (2008-10).
