SAN DIEGO, CA – The San Diego Padres today announced plans to expand their broadcast offerings this season, with a selection of games to be televised in Tijuana and others to be made available free-of-charge on padres.com. Padres President and COO Tom Garfinkel made the announcement.
“Increasing access to Padres games for our fans remains a top priority for our organization,” said Garfinkel. “We received overwhelmingly positive feedback last year in response to both our Spanish TV partnership and our online steaming. We are happy to offer even more options to Padres fans in 2011, and we’d like to thank our partners at Uniradio TV and MLB Advanced Media for working with us to make this happen in time for the start of the season.”
As part of the agreement with Uniradio TV, up to 81 Padres games will be broadcast on Uniradio’s Channel 47 on the Cablemas Cable Network in Tijuana this season, beginning with the home opener against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, April 5. Telecasts will feature video from COX/Channel 4 San Diego and audio provided by Uniradio team broadcasters Eduardo Ortega and Juan Angel Avila. The full schedule of televised games can be found at padresbeisbol.com and uniradio.com.
"We're very excited at Uniradio TV to once again play a key role as the San Diego Padres’ Spanish language flagship TV station for the Tijuana market,” said Uniradio’s Vice President Ricardo Astiazaran. “The Padres are very close to the hearts of the Tijuana residents, and there's great expectation for the 2011 season.”
Additionally today, the Padres announced plans to make select games available free-of-charge online at padres.com, to fans residing in the team’s home broadcast territory. The live video stream will be available exclusively at padres.com for up to 17 games, and will feature audio from the Padres’ XX1090 radio broadcast and video from the opposing team’s television broadcast.
The games set to be streamed online are not currently scheduled to be televised locally – either on network TV or by the Padres’ broadcast rights holder, Cox Communications. In order to gain access to the free live video stream, Padres fans will be required to complete a registration form on padres.com to validate their location.
