SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres announced today they have recalled right-handed pitcher Pat Neshek from Triple-A Tucson and optioned infielder Logan Forsythe to the same Tucson club. Executive Vice President/General Manager Jed Hoyer made the announcement.
Neshek, 30, was previously optioned to Triple-A Tucson on April 24. The right-hander was claimed off waivers by the Padres from the Minnesota Twins on March 20 and made San Diego’s Opening Day roster, going 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA (2 ER/8.0 IP) and seven strikeouts against five walks in eight games before being optioned. In nine games for Tucson, he has gone 1-1 with two saves, a 1.86 ERA (2 ER/9.2 IP), three strikeouts against five walks and seven hits allowed, including one home run. Originally selected by the Twins in the sixth-round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, he has gone 12-6 with a 3.01 ERA (46 ER/137.2 IP) and 158 strikeouts against 50 walks in 140 career appearances across five Major League seasons with the Twins (2006-08, 2010) and Padres (2011).
Forsythe, 24, was selected from Triple-A Tucson on May 4 and made his Major League debut that day against the Pittsburgh Pirates as a pinch-hitter. In eight plate appearances with San Diego he went 0-for-7 with a walk, with his only game started coming at second base on May 8 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 22 games for Tucson this season, the infielder has hit .291 (25-for-86) with five doubles, four home runs, 15 RBI, 20 runs scored and two stolen bases. Selected by the Padres in the supplemental-round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft (46th overall), he has hit .279 (277-for-993) with 50 doubles, seven triples, 18 home runs, 114 RBI and 173 runs scored in 273 games played over four minor league seasons.
