SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres announced today they have reinstated infielder Orlando Hudson from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Evan Scribner to Triple-A Tucson. Executive Vice President/General Manager Jed Hoyer made the announcement.
Hudson, 33, was placed on the disabled list on May 4 with a strained right hamstring. The switch-hitting infielder made three rehab starts, two for Triple-A Tucson and one for Single-A Lake Elsinore, going 3-for-5 (.600) with two doubles, one RBI, six runs scored, five walks and a stolen base on his rehab assignment. He has hit .245 (23-for-94) with four doubles, a triple, six RBI, nine runs scored and a career-high tying 10 stolen bases in 29 games for the Padres this season. Over parts of 10 Major League seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays (2002-05), Arizona Diamondbacks (2006-07), Los Angeles Dodgers (2009), Minnesota Twins (2010) and Padres (2011), he has hit .280 (1191-for-4261) with 242 doubles, 56 triples, 83 home runs, 477 RBI, 582 runs scored and 70 stolen bases in 1,169 games played.
Scribner, 25, was recalled from Triple-A Tucson on April 25 and made his Major League debut for San Diego on April 26 against the Atlanta Braves at PETCO Park. In six outings for the Padres the right-hander posted a 2.45 ERA (3 ER/11.0 IP) with seven strikeouts against two walks. He has retired 16 consecutive batters over his last three outings at home, posting a 0.90 ERA (1 ER/10.0 IP) in five games overall at PETCO Park. With Tucson this season, he has gone 0-1 with three saves in four opportunities, a 5.63 ERA (5 ER/8.0 IP) and five strikeouts against no walks over six relief appearances. Acquired by San Diego from the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 17, 2008 in exchange for infielder Tony Clark, he has gone 17-16 with 52 saves, a 2.71 ERA (78 ER/259.0 IP) and 317 strikeouts against 62 walks over 192 relief appearances across five minor league seasons in the Diamondbacks (2007-08) and Padres (2009-11) organizations.
