Padres Punchless Losing Three of Four Against Giants 

The Padres were unable to get their offense going and dropped three of four against the rival Giants. The Giants came into San Diego down two games and left tied before they face the Dodgers on Tuesday in San Francisco. The Padres will fly to Colorado tonight in a huge series against the Rockies who are only one game out of first themselves.

Jon Garland had one of his roughtest outiings of the year, surrendering three home runs in a 7-3 loss Thursday night. He surrendered two-run blasts from Aubrey Huff and Buster Posey along with a solo shot from Juan Uribe.

The Padres scored on a couple of long balls of their own with a solo shot by Will Venable in the third and a two run shot by Ryan Ludwick in the 9th.

Pat Burell capped the Giants scoring with a solo blast in the seventh to give Cain his eleventh win of the season. Cain fanned eight friars while walking one.

The win brought the Giants within a game of first place.
