Padres Unveil 2015 Promos; “Retro” Wednesdays

Earlier this week the Padres unveiled their 2015 Promotional schedule – you know promos. The cool stuff you get in addition to going to watch a great game downtown? As if the new and improved Power Packed Padres wasn’t enough to draw you down to beautiful Petco Park, you now have a bunch of cool swag in store for you when you walk through the gates this season. And on top of all that…

…kind of. Sort of. Just a little bit.

But yes! You read that correctly. A new promotion in store for the team this season is “Way Back Wednesdays,” where players will take the field on five select Wednesday day games wearing the old brown pinstripe uniforms from the mid-to-late 80’s and 1990. Here’s a quick glance at the schedule that will aid you in getting your much-needed dose of Padres nostalgia:

“Way Back Wednesday” (Bring Back the Brown Wednesdays?) Day Games:

April 29th @ 12:40pm against the Houston Astros
July 1st @ 12:40pm against the Seattle Mariners* (don’t forget about the Vedder Cup!)
July 22nd @ 12:40pm against the San Francisco Giants** (free Knockaround Sunglasses today too)
August 12th @ 12:40pm against the Cincinnati Reds
August 19th @ 12:40pm against the Atlanta Braves

If that isn’t enough nostalgia for you, the team will also be giving away “Throwback Replica Jerseys” that are modeled much after the 1985-1990 brown pinstripe style on Saturday, August 8th @ 5:40pm against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Some of the recent “promotional staples” are making their much anticipated comeback next season: The Padres Fedora, another Camouflage Padres Replica Jersey, the annual Padres Beach Towel, Knockaround Sunglasses, and other weekly promotions like Taco Tuesday and Sunday KidsFest. Let us also not forget about BeerFest, which will take place first on Friday, April 24th against the Los Angeles Dodgers and then again later in the season on Friday, September 4th against, once again, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

There’s just something about having LA fans come in to town that makes you want to drink…

But some new promotions are making their debut this season, including a Padres Hoodie, a Dri-Fit Athletic T-Shirt, a Petco Park Replica (which I can only assume is a tiny little model of Petco Park for your desk), and “CocktailFest” which will be on Friday, July 17th against the Colorado Rockies and Friday, August 7th against the Philadelphia Phillies.

If you love collecting stadium giveaways and Padres swag, this season is setting up to be an exciting one for the avid Padres fanatic. Even so, the advent of CocktailFest and the Padres Hoodie shows that perhaps marketing is changing down at Petco Park to bring people from every background and demographic.

No longer will the beer hipsters hold a monopoly down at the park with their stylish fedoras and delicious craft beer expos – we’ve got hard liquor and cozy sweatshirts, too!  Everyone’s a winner!
