LIKE A ROCK: Clayton Richard takes the hill tonight for the Padres second game of the season…in 2012 the southpaw was unanimously voted the Padres Pitcher of the Year (Clyde McCullough Award) by the San Diego chapter of the BBWAA after going 14-14 with a 3.99 ERA over 33 starts, leading the club with a career-best tying 14 wins and a career-best 218.2 innings pitched…finished with the fourth-most innings by any National League pitcher last season…the Padres won 13 of his final 21 starts as he went 12-7 with a 3.68 ERA from 6/12 through the end of the season.

BIRTHDAY WEEK: Several Padres will celebrate their birthdays over the next five days, including Cameron Maybin who turns 26 years old tomorrow (4/4/87 in Asheville, NC), Alexi Amarista who turns 24 on Saturday (4/6/89 in Barcelona, VEN) and Yonder Alonso who turns 26 on Monday (4/8/87 in Havana, CUB)…not far behind, right-hander Brad Brach will celebrate his 27th birthday on 4/12 (4/12/86 in Freehold, NJ).

PADRES VS. METS: The Padres play the second of seven games against the Mets in 2013 tonight…dropped the fi rst game on Monday by a score of 11-2…will play three games in New York to open the season and won’t face each other again until a four-game series in SD 8/15-18…the Padres went 3-4 against the Mets last season, including 1-3 at Citi Field…Padres lead the all-time series 228-223, including a 104-120 mark in New York (6-9 at Citi Field).
