2012 Padres Organizational Depth: 3B

Chase Headley Third base is an area of great interest in the discussion of organizational depth with the Padres. There are several prospects at this position who profile to have successful major league careers and one current major leaguer who inspires spirited debate regarding his relative merits. It would be foolish not to recognize what Chase Headley has accomplished with the Padres (hits for average, runs well, plays Gold Glove caliber defense), despite a position change that put him at a real disadvantage for one season. But concerns remain and further discussion of what is best for the team will be continued after the options are outlined.
