Richard Scheduled to Return Monday

Clayton Richard

Clayton Richard

Starting pitcher Clayton Richard is scheduled to be activated off of the disabled list Monday to join the club in Seattle, according to ESPN correspondent Tristan Cockcroft. Pitcher Edinson Volquez was scheduled to start Monday night’s game against the Mariners, but has been pushed back to a Tuesday start following the club’s announcement regarding Richard. Clayton has been sidelined on the 15-Day DL since May 5th after contracting an intestinal virus earlier in the season.

Richard’s slow start to the season, 0-4 with an 8.54 ERA over six games, was attributed to the virus that actually caused the pitcher to lose 15 pounds a few weeks ago. Since being placed on the DL, Richard has made two rehab starts with the Triple-A Tucson Padres, going 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA and striking out 12 over 12-innings. It’s also worth noting that Clayton did not walk a batter over those 12-innings pitched. In addition to the rehab starts, Richard pitched in a bullpen session at Chase Field on Friday.

Richard will take the mound Monday and duel against Aaron Harang in Seattle at 1:10pm.
