RIZZOMANIA Just in Time for a NLROY Run
RIZZOMANIA seems to have hit San Diego this week and for good reason. Padres prospect Anthony Rizzo, rumored to make his major league debut is currently in San Diego and all signs point to him making an appearance in a Padres uniform this week. Rizzo has put up video game numbers while with AAA Tucson this season and if his swing is able to translate from the PCL to the NL West, a run at the NL Rookie of the Year award could be in the cards.
Rizzo will have two things going for him, playing in Petco during the summer and the amount of road games the Padres still have. Petco is still pitcher friendly as the temperature rises, but will open up for offenses. We got a reminder of this when the Pirates came to town in early May. Of the teams remaining 100 games, 54 will be on the road including two trips to hitter friendly parks in Colorado and Arizona.
Regardless of what the Padres do in the standings, Rizzo will give the fans a reason to watch as he tries to do something that has not been achieved in San Diego since Benito Santiago won the award in 1987.
In Rizzo we trust.
