Six TinCaps make Midwest League All Star Team
As the Fort Wayne TinCaps hit the mid point of their season with a winning record (36-34), six TinCaps have been named to the Midwest League All Star Team. Starting pitchers Nick Greenwood (4-3, 3.96 ERA) and Jerry Sullivan (5-3, 3.72 ERA) have anchored the TinCaps rotation all season accounting for a quarter of the TinCaps victories. First baseman Nate Frieman has been a stalwart in the middle of the TinCaps lineup, leading the team with a .302 average, 6 HR and 40 RBI. Outfielder Danny Payne, who joined the team in May and has only played in 35 games for the ‘Caps, has a .409 OBP, .295 average, 25 RBI, and 12 stolen bases. Payne has been the top of the lineup catalyst since joining the team.
Two other TinCap players were added to the All Star team after other players were injured. RP Mike Mikolas (4-1, 1.88 ERA) is averaging nearly a strikeout per inning and has been the TinCaps late inning specialist. 2B Jeudy Valdez leads the TinCaps in several offensive categories (7 HR, 41 RBI, 18 SB) was added to the roster after Lansing INF Mark Sobolewski was promoted to AA.
The Midwest All Star Game is Tuesday night in Fort Wayne at Parkview Field at 7 pm.
