Storm Celebrating 20th Season at the Diamond

The San Diego Padres Advanced-A affiliate Lake Elsinore Storm is proud to be celebrating its 20th season since relocating from Palm Springs with the Anaheim Angels organization back in 1994. The Storm have been a Padres affiliate since 2001, but the organization itself is celebrating its twentieth year at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore. The team has plenty of promotions and celebrations going down at the stadium so Padres fans and baseball fans alike won’t want to miss out on the fun this season.

In addition to the typical promotions that are served weekly at the Diamond (Margarita Mondays, Wacky Weenie Wednesdays, Fireworks Fridays and Social Media Saturday), the team will be having some cool events going on as well including a “Storm Alumni Game” and also the return of Hamlet the Lake Monster – the Storm’s old mascot from their inaugural season. The alumni weekend game will include notable Storm alumni Joe Urso and former Major League catcher Todd Greene.

The team will be also be holding a “Padres Homecoming Night” on Thursday, August 28th where former Storm players and current Padres players will be reuniting at the Storm to celebrate in the team’s 20th anniversary. Storm alumni currently on the Padres roster include Jedd Gyorko, Xavier Nady, Nick Vincent, Nick Hundley, Chase Headley, Tim Stauffer, and most recently Tommy Medica and Kevin Quackenbush. Fans will have a chance to see some of their favorite minor leaguers turned major leaguers in a small-ball setting at the Diamond, so mark your calendars for a chance to see the pros up close.

The team has also modified some of their classic promotions, particularly $2 Tuesdays and Thirsty Thursdays. $2 Tuesdays are now “T-N-T Tuesdays” where fans can get $2 tacos and $3 “Tallboys” of their favorite domestic beers. Thursdays have become “951 Thirsty Thursdays” where fans can get $9 tickets, $5 parking and $1 beers or sodas (including craft beers like Hanger 24 and Karl Strauss) through the 7th inning at the stadium. Other notable promotions this season include “Nothing Night” on Monday, July 28th – no charge, no tickets, and also no stadium announcer or concessions (“baseball au natural”) and Storm Hat giveaway night on Saturday, July 26th.

Another fan favorite, “Sunday Fundays,” are designed especially for families with kids or youth groups who are looking for a family activity during the weekends. Kids can take pictures with Thunder the official storm mascot or bounce around in Thunder’s fun-zone down the right field line. The team will also be celebrating their mascot Jackpot Rabbit’s 21st Birthday (on the 20th season?) on Thursday, May 29th. Since it’s Minor League Baseball, you know it will be a good time.

Fans can take part in the festivities all season long by making the short 1-hour drive up the I-15 from downtown San Diego. If you’re looking to see the future of the Padres organization and also enjoy some old fashioned minor league baseball fun, head up to Lake Elsinore and celebrate the 20th Season at The Diamond.
