Storm Week #10 review 6/11/11- 6/17/11

storm_baseballThe Storm, now six games under .500, started the week with a series win against High Desert and then won their series against the Lancaster Jet Hawks (2 of 3) and split the first two games of another series against HD. That gave them a 4-3 record for the week and a 31-37 record overall.

All Star Jedd Gyorko was the lone Storm player to make the mid-season game but starting pitcher Pedro Hernandez was added this week. A well-earned honor, Pedro is 5-0 with a 2.70 ERA for the season and won both his games during the past week going 12 innings with 4 hits and allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts to lower his ERA from 3.02.

IB Nate Freiman had a big week with another Storm player adding a grand slam to the total for the season. He increased his average from .276 to .296 with 6 runs, 2 2B, 3B, 3 HR and 11 RBI with a BB and 3 SO for the week. His average for the week was .500.

CF Rey Fuentes stole 5 more bases during the week to increase his total to 30 for the season. His hitting has hit a plateau with his average hovering around .300 and few extra base hits added to his total. The expectation coming into the season would be a high on base percentage while driving the ball around the field. That has not materialized so far but Fuentes remains at the top of the order when he plays.

Catcher Jason Hagerty was placed on the DL again and Ross Brayton was sent to Lake Elsinore from extended spring training.

Pitcher Chris Fetter went to the DL with an elbow sprain and Chris Wilkes came to the Storm from extended spring training.

The hitting has really come around the last couple of weeks but the pitching will need to improve to get the Storm into the running for the second half. Matt Lollis is improving his performance and others will have to step up their game to get their earned runs down and some improved defense will also be a big help.
