Storm Week #12 review 6/25/11- 7/1/11
Lake Elsinore started the first full week after the All-Star break off strong, going 5-2 for the week and stringing together a five game win streak. That makes them 7-2 since the break with 3B/DH Jedd Gyorko continuing his over .350 hitting and Catcher Jason Hagerty starting to string together good at bats in the number four or five hole in the lineup.
Alternate 3B/DH Jake Blackwood was promoted from Fort Wayne, presumably to take over for Eddie Rincon, who was placed on the DL. Pitcher Miles Mikolas, the closer for the Storm, continued his dominance over hitters while earning a 3-0 record and 1.16 ERA.
CF Rey Fuentes hit his first home run of the season and is starting to drive the ball better and also got his stolen base number to 34 for the season.
There are five to six hitters in the regular lineup who now have batting averages around or over .300 at this point in the season. The middle infield of Valdez and Galvez are both hitting well but continue to make lots of defensive errors. They are also both prolific base stealers who continue to work on refining their game and are making progress.
Reliever Jason Ray was brought in from Tucson to bolster the bullpen, which has been racking up innings. Several of the starters are being limited on their innings pitched, especially Lollis, which puts a bigger burden on the bullpen.
The promotion of Andrew Werner from Fort Wayne last week should also help with the starting pitching and give the other members of the staff some help. His first start for the Storm went six innings allowing four hits and no runs with ten strikeouts for a great first impression. His record in Fort Wayne (2-6) was not accurate of his ability as he received minimal run support.
