Storm Week #8 review 5/28/11- 6/3/11

?

storm_baseballLake Elsinore followed up their eight game win streak with a series loss to Inland Empire, losing the last game in 14 innings. The following three games against Rancho Cucamonga were more successful, taking two of the three with the offense starting to come around more consistently and less errors being made on defense. The Storm then hosted the same Inland Empire team that swept them earlier in the week and took three of four at home, with hitting and pitching beginning to align to win close games.

3B/DH Jedd Gyorko continues his impressive run and has kept his batting average between .360 and .380 consistently while adding seven more RBI to his league leading total. CF Rey Fuentes also had a week to write home about. His average maintained at just a tick below .300 but his production included eight runs scored, seven walks and added two RBI. Over the first 55 games of the season he is second in runs scored with forty four, third in hits with sixty seven and first in triples with three. He is first in stolen bases with 25/32 for the season.

RHP Matt Lollis had a rough start to his year but has come around his last two starts with seven hits allowed in ten innings pitched with two earned runs and has lowered his ERA from 5.88 to 5.34.

Starter/reliever Pedro Hernandez pitched in his fourth start of the year and has a 3-0 record, 2.50 ERA.

1B Nate Freiman did not improve his batting average this week but contributed a grand slam against Rancho Cucamonga in their 12-4 win while going 2/4 with 5 RBI.

While going 4-3 for the week the Storm now sits at 24-31 for the season.

Roster changes for the week included OF Oscar Garcia rejoining the Storm from extended spring training while OF Chase Marona went the opposite direction.

Starter Jose DePaula came off the DL and 2B Jeudy Valdez also got healthy and rejoined the team. OF Daniel Meeley was placed on the DL with a knee infection.
