Thank You, Kevin Towers
The beginning of the second half of the 2010 season is upon us. Our surprising Padres hold the second best record in the National League and are in sole possession of first place in the NL West. As the non-waiver trading deadline approaches I thought this would be a good time to look back at last year and examine what our former GM contributed to the team currently on the field. With special emphasis on the pitching that the Padres have relied upon so heavily for their early success.
Most of us remember the concern (read:panic) that we felt during spring training last season. Our pitching, in particular, was of great concern and the bullpen the most of all. During the end of spring training and the first half of last season Kevin Towers made several moves to strengthen our pitching staff. Those moves measure in significantly to the success of the second half of last season and the current success of 2010.
