TinCaps Week in review #8 5/28-6/3/11
Writing these weekly recaps for our two A teams has begun to feel like an exercise in duplication. It is remarkable that these two teams resemble each other in their seasons so far (and also seem quite similar to the major league team at times). Maybe it is just the frustration that the Padres fans are having with this season but it seems I keep writing the same things over and over.
Fort Wayne basically struggles to score runs and ends the week with a 3-4 record to go 24-30 for the season. Their most improved player, Rymer Liriano, is a 19 yr old who has steadily raised his production as the season goes on and, along with Luis Domoromo, is beginning to show some result from the international signings of the past few years. They both have developing power and speed.
For the week, Liriano is 9/26 with 6 runs scored, a 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI and has 20/25 stolen bases for the season.
Starting pitcher Adys Portillo has struggled during the first half of the season but pitched 9.2 innings for the week with 3 hits allowed and 2 earned runs. He had 6 BB and 14 SO to lower his ERA from 9.35 to 7.32. Portillo has overpowering stuff but doesn
