Tucson Padres Player and Pitcher of the Month: June
After finishing off the month of June with its best week of the season, in the last week the T-Pads won more games than they lost. They also had their longest win streak of the season with five games.
The T-Pads have been improving slowly but surely through the month of June and have seen catcher Yasmani Grandal get named to the 2012 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, that will be played on Sunday July 8 in Kansas City.
Grandal was also called up to the San Diego Padres and had started his first game with the team on Saturday June 30.
Outfielder Daniel Robertson was selected to go to represent the T-Pads on the Pacific Coast League All-Star team that will be played on July 11 in Buffalo, New York.
They are not the only two players that were that have been having a good month of June. On the hitter side of the field, third baseman Jedd Gyorko, (pronounced jerko).
He is from Morgantown, WV and went to college at West Virginia.
Gyorko played in 27 games for the month of June and had 114 appearances in his games played.
He had 42 hits in his 114 at-bats giving him .368 average for the month of June.
Gyorko had five home runs and crossed home plate 15 times to help out his team.
He also collected 27 RBIs in the month of June as well as 12 doubles, while stealing only one base.
His strike out to walk ratio wasn’t all that great as he struck out 20 times and only had 11 walks for the month.
The third baseman also managed to end the month with on-base-percentage of .424, had a slugging percentage of .605 and had an OPS (on base + slugging) of 1.029.
For the month of June Gyorko lead the T-Pads in several categories; he had the most hits, home runs, tied in doubles with infielder Anthony Contreras, led in RBIs and in SLG.
On the season Gyorko is only two home runs behind first baseman Matt Clark who has 12 on the season.
He is also two RBIs behind the leaders Clark and Contreras who have 41 RBIs to their name.
The pitcher for the month of June for the Tucson Padres would be Erik Hamren,
Hamren is from Newport Beach, Cali and went to college at Saddleback Community College in Cali.
He appeared in 11 games and pitched only 10 and two thirds innings.
Hamren had an ERA of 1.69 for the month of June, allowing only 12 hits through his 10 and two thirds innings of work and only gave up two runs.
He did not record a win or loss in any of his appearances for the month of June.
Also in the month, Hamren managed to strike out 14 hitters and only walked three.
Hamren also posted a 1.14 ground out to fly out ratio, he also collected all four of his saves in the month of June, putting him in second place for saves on the team.
He is just one save behind the team leader Brad Boxberger.
The T-Pads are hoping to keep up its momentum and are willing to prove that they still have some good baseball skills.
