Unknown Eater: The Pier

The PierNestled along the third base side of the Toyota Terrace lies a lesser-known restaurant at Petco Park – The Pier.  This sit-down restaurant provides a great place to take in the game or just enjoy a meal prior to first pitch. The open seating includes great views of the park and a three-level outdoor patio.

The menu is redesigned this year to include more favorites like chips and guacamole, salsa (3 kinds to be exact) and queso dip.  A full bar and extensive beer list makes paring your food with your favorite cocktail a breeze.  I gulped down a beer from The Kona Brewing Company while feasting on some of the new menu items.

Chicken Torta

I tried the Chicken Torta along with the Lobster Roll and chips and hot salsa.  I was pleasantly surprised by the salsa; it had great flavor and just the right amount of spice! Next, I tried the Chicken Torta (pork also available), which was served on a traditional torta role with cabbage, sour cream, cheese, pico de gallo, and black beans.   Although it started out a little dry, it quickly transformed into the most delicious torta I’ve had in a long time.  The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth tender and spiced to perfection.  All the flavors came together perfectly, making this a must-try item!

Lobster Roll

The Lobster Roll was just as delightful.  It was served open-face in a celery slaw cream dressing on a sweet roll.  The lobster was cooked  flawlessly and cut into right-size bites that made it easy to eat with a fork to cut out down the carbs.

Everything was excellent, aside from the service.  I was there for a quick meal, but most stay for the whole game, which makes the speed much less important.  The cost of a meal for two is comparable to what you would pay in Old Town, so I would say that’s fair for a great meal at the park.
