“I like the patches. They are cool”- @luigichargerfan
“Bland and Boring, but they change them every couple of years so who cares? Had High hopes but knew better than to get my hopes up.” -@ThisIsSan_Diego
Video link that says, “It stinks!!”- @thesacbunt
These are some of the responses that were being received. While some people were upset, such as the “Bring Back the Brown” faction, others applauded the team. But as I scanned my timeline I noticed a recurring theme amongst the Padres faithful. They were not as “bad as I thought they’d be” was the sentiment of several people. I for one agree with that. I would go as far to say as that I actually liked them.
“I like the sand, but keeping the sand on the home uniform was a mistake unless they were going to follow through with sand/blue on the piping.” -@ParkAtThePark
I agree with this take. While I like the collar piping, it seemed very strange to me they’d keep “sand” as an accent color when they seemed to be “weening” us off it the past year. I am however a big fan of the team changing back to the original art of the “swinging friar”, updated with navy blue and used as the patch for the home jersey. I am also surprised the team kept the same “shampoo” font.
“My favorite (of these) is the gray road. Bland, but still legibly repping ‘San Diego’ loud & clear.”- @backthebrownSD.
Gone is the “bowtie” design of the old sand roads that survived the switch to gray last season. The new “road grays” say "San Dieg" across the chest in one continuous size, feature navy collar piping as well as a snazzy new patch of Petco Park on the left sleeve. With these they will again adorn the navy cap with white interlocking SD.
“#Padres organization needs a graphic designer/corp identidy specialis. Jerseys are cookie cutter, nothing screams ‘Padres’.”- @edgarbautista
I would apply this statement to their new “Blue Alt” jerseys. They are navy w/ white piping and a white SD on the left breast w/ the Petco patch on the left sleeve, worn with the standard hat. I find this to look like the BP jersey of the 90’s and unimaginative. But I also saw a lot of people liked it as well.
The only change to the military camo was they changed the stylized name and number font to the more traditional “block” style used by several ball clubs. This change was made to all four uniforms. I for one was very happy about this since I shelled out almost $200 for an authentic version of this jersey just last year with my name and number emblazoned on the back. So it’s nice to see my “new” jersey is not completely obsolete. As a uniform junkie myself, today was like Christmas Eve for me as I was excited all day about the potential of the gift I would receive from my beloved Padres. And even though it was “yet another tie”, it was a pretty cool tie that I think I might enjoy wearing from time to time.
