I like Sean Gallagher, but he probably has about 10 more days (until the decision on CY is made) to prove his worth. If not, I would drop him. Nevertheless, that wouldn't make a spot for LeBlanc in the starting rotation. If Mat Latos continues to struggle, you almost have to keep LeBlanc up and have Latos continue his maturity/seasoning in AAA right? Well, another thought I kicked around in spring training (because Tim Stauffer and Gallagher are both out of options) would be to go with a 6-man rotation. We could waive Gallagher and go with a 6-man rotation rather than sending down Latos or LeBlanc. It would allow Latos to still develop on the MLB level while limiting his work load under Darren Balsley and Bud Black. At this point with LeBlanc literally dominating, I do not see how the Padres could send him down. LeBlanc's impressive spring training in any other year would have made him a lock for the rotation - it just goes to show the depth that the Padres have. LeBlanc lowered his ERA from 0.82 to 0.52 with a streak of 16.1 scoreless innings over 3 starts so far this season. Nothing short of amazing if you ask me! Let the debate begin... *On an unrelated note, the Padres Everth Cabrera is headed to the DL with a strained right hamstring, Matt Antonelli to 60-day DL, and Lance Zawadzki contract purchased. Bud Black said, "(he) liked the way Zawadzki played in the second half of spring training. He's got a steady glove." Zawadski's offense is not a vital part as he is filling in as a back up.

However, IMHO, I don't think the six man rotation is the answer.
If CY comes back in a couple of weeks...which is a big if...I would send down Latos.
However, if Padres brass feels they have seen enough of Gallagher, then the decision is easy...send him out and see if he passes waivers.
The thing about Gallagher is that we really dont know if he a capable pitcher. He finds himself in a bad situation since he is out of options...and was not able to crack the rotation. Thus, he finds himself getting in games sporadically, and getting bombed in the process.
I think in the next couple of weeks we will discover what Jed and Buddy think of Gallagher when they are finally forced into a decision.
I admit a 6 man rotation is far from ideal however, with our particular situation I could see it being a possibility. It could help CY's work load, Latos and even for guys like Correia. For Correia, I could see him slowing down at the end of the year because last year was his first legit full year starting. That would be very bad IF we were in dare I say playoff contention.
Garland is a "horse" but has already had SOME minor arm concerns. Again I think its far from ideal for a team to go with a 6-man rotation for MANY reasons, but in are case, the Padres case I wouldn't be shocked and it would be logical in many ways.
With Latos' next start day on Thursday's day off, and Both Garland and Young due to pitch next Friday, it looks like the schedule is telling Bud to re-arrange his rotation order! Jed and Bud may not be able to kick thecan down the road and be forced to make a decision.
