Luebke Cory Robert Luebke

Bats: Right, Throws: Left Height: 6' 4", Weight: 215 lb.
Born: March 4, 1985 in Coldwater, Ohio, US
Drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 18th round of the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft, the Texas Rangers in the 22nd round of the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft and the San Diego Padres in the 1st round (63rd) of the 2007 MLB June Amateur Draft.

Cory Luebke will make his MLB debut tonight against the Colorado Rockies. This is a very important and special game for the promising young southpaw but also a very important game for the Padres who have lost 7 straight. The Padres and manager Bud Black have been fairly tight lipped about whether Luebke will become an everyday starter, taking over for one of the struggling pitchers in LeBlanc or Correia, or if he will merely spot start to help ease the work load off the youngsters, mainly Mat Latos.

Luebke has a tall frame not uncustomary to pitchers, lengthy south paw (6'4" 215 lb), that throws in the low 90’s (topping out at 94).  He also has a plus slider and vastly improved change-up. He displays a very fluid delivery and has shown a solid command of the strike zone. He has excellent late tailing movement on his 2 seem fast-ball that (when locating) is absolutely filthy. Luebke also has one of the better (pick off) moves to 1st base in the organization similar to Wade LeBlanc. As a lefty and the ability to have 3 plus pitches, he has the potential to be a front end of the rotation starter in the majors. Luebke went 5-0 with a 2.97 ERA in nine starts with Triple-A Portland after dominating in Double-A San Antonio going  5-1 with a 2.40 ERA.

The Baseball Cube:

Scouting Report Control: 83 K-Rating: 58 Efficiency: 78 vsPower: 47

Baseball America ranked him sixth in the Padres system overall.
