Week #16 recap 7/23/10- 7/30/10
Week 16 of the minor league season brings a record for Storm closer Brad Brach. With his 33rd save of the season he becomes the single season saves leader. Before the end of the week he secured his 34th save and is now only 11 saves away from the all time record for a closer with the Storm. The California League saves record for a single season is 37 and he is well within reach of that number with 37 games left in the regular season. Since being drafted by the Padres, Brach is 70 of 75 in saves attempts. He was a starter in college but converted to a reliever immediately by the Padres. In his 50.1 IP this season he has given up 14 ER, 5 HR, 7 BB with 59 SO for a 2.50 ERA.
OF Bo Davis, selected in the 24th round of the 2009 draft out of So. Miss., was promoted from the Tin Caps after the first 24 games of the season. He did not get much playing time until after the All Star break but has filled in the corner spots more frequently since then. For this past week he had 23 at bats with 6 hits and 7 walks for a .565 OBP. He also scored 3 runs with a double, 2 HR, 5 RBI and a stolen base. He did have 3 SO and increased his BA from .185 to .218. He bears watching the last month of the season to see if he can build on this past week.
The Storm had a 4-3 record for the week while playing series against Bakersfield, Stockton and started a series against Visalia. They stand at 18-17 for the second half of the season with an overall record of 64-31 and a 5 game lead in the Cal League South for the season.
Start to make your plans for the post season as the Storm finishes their season Sept 6 with the postseason beginning Sept 11. As the first half champions they are at home for the first two games of the post season.
